dc.description.abstractThe research project was conducted at the Holy Cross Orthodox Hospital (HCOH) Namungoona record’s department and focused on the health records. The purpose of this research was to study the existing system of locating records at the Holy Cross Orthodox Hospital (HCOH) Namungoona. The study aimed at identifying the different types of health records kept, procedures used for access and retrieval, identifying the challenges of the existing system, establishing how the identified challenges can be solved and finally proposing an ideal locating tool for health records at Holy Cross Orthodox Hospital (HCOH) Namungoona records department. The study was guided five specific objectives, that is; to find out the records generated and kept by holy cross orthodox hospital Namungoona, to examine the existing methods of records indexing at Holy Cross Orthodox Hospital (HCOH) Namungoona, to identify the challenges of the existing record’s retrieval and access tools at Holy Cross Orthodox Hospital (HCOH)Namungoona, to find out the requirements for developing an indexing tool, to develop an indexing tool for Holy Cross Orthodox Hospital Namugoona (HCOH) records department The methods of the study used to collect data were qualitative in nature and they included; interviews guides, observation guides and documentary analysis and questionnaires were distributed to the respondents purposive sampling was used to select the number of potential respondents. Data was presented in tabulations, graphs and in an essay form. The major findings in the study included the types of health records kept and generated, current manual and electronic system in terms of the type of tools used to locate the health records the department handles and procedures for access and retrieval of records challenges of current locating tools at HCOH Namungoona. It was concluded that HCOH Namungoona requires an ideal indexing tool. Therefore it was recommended that HCOH adopt and implement the proposed indexing tool as it is able to locate files easily, flexible, they save a lot of time and they can be easily replaced once lost.en_US
