An appreciation of Orukwanzi Rwente necklace and okujuga ceremony among the Tooro culture.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was established the origin with the orukwanzi rwente necklace and okujuga ceremony among the tooro culture. the activities carrired out during the okujuga ceremony and its significance of the orukwanzi rwente necklace. the other types of necklaces used in tooro culture. the research was descriptive in nature involving quantitative methods. it was comprised of 15 respondents of all the craft shop owners, cultural ministers and eldery of tooro kingdom. findings revealed that the okujuga ceremony among the batooro takes place at a time when the family of the groom comes to pay bribe price of the bride. bead and beadwork in africa dates back tp the archeological times. the material to make the beads is used to determine the technological ages. abundancy of the natural resources required in the bead work differ widely across the continent thus making the importance of the bead differ prayer or spiritual representation, anti-tension devices, medical purposes, gaming adornments and each color of the beads had its own meaning. the batooro used glass and plastic beads most of the times. the orukwanzi rwente necklace is one of the special necklaces used in the tooro culture, which is a cetremonial necklace used in introductions. it is guiven to the woman by the man showing that the bride wealth has been paid and the bride can be taken by the husband. it wasd concluided that sensitization of the public about the cultural norms and formation of different cultural clubs, teaching of tooro culture in schools and villages helps in the development of cultural management of the tooro kingdom
