The study employed a case study design while adopting both quantitative and qualitative approaches were used. Purposive sampling was used to sample the 30 respondents who participated in the study. Interview, observation and questionnaire methods were used to collect relevant data for the study. The study found out that St. Michael High School Sonde Mukono Library is currently using a manual system in the storage of information resources. The study findings revealed that the most important fields that can help in the storage of bibliographic data of library materials such as text books, newspapers and magazines, handouts, past papers, pamphlets and others are not captured by the system such as accession number, abstract, call numbers which can help in the description of the resources. The study established that bibliographic data for the new information resources is captured using counter books (accession registers) which is characterized by time wastage, loss of bibliographic data, difficulty in making library reports, poor data storage and later slow retrieval of data were reported as the challenges for the storage and retrieval of bibliographic data at SMICH Library. The study established that there was a need to increase the field of the information resources captured such as; subject, call number, and the abstract so as to easily store and later retrieve the resources. The study concluded that the challenges faced with the manual system used in the storage and alter retrieval of bibliographic data at SMICH Library would be solved by adopting the bibliographic database and training of the library staff to adopt the system. The study recommended the school administration to adopt the designed proposed system to support the librarians while storing and later retrieving the information resources by the library staff.en_US
