Thyroiditis comprises a diverse group of inflammatory thyroid lesions and is one of the most common endocrine disorders in clinical practice. The most frequently encountered form is chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis (Hashimoto’s thyroiditis), first described in 1912, and a major cause of goiter and hypothyroidism globally. Inflammation of the thyroid, thyroiditis, is more often due to non-infectious causes and is classified on the basis of onset and duration of disease into acute, subacute and chronic thyroiditis. Fine needle aspiration (FNA) is most often used to evaluate thyroiditis when a dominant nodule is present or when the patient presents with anterior neck swellingen_US
