    Assessment of the preservation of records at Wakiso District Local Government.

    Abstract
    The study attempted to assess the preservation of records at Wakiso District Local Government. The problem statement of the study was preservation of records at WDLG thus the major concern was to last government records for so long so permanently be available without getting destroyed. The objectives of the study were, to find to find out the types of records at Local Government, the records preserved, identify the challenges facing preservation of records and to find out the recommendations to improve perseveration of records in WDLG. To achieve the objectives of the study the researcher adopted qualitative approach and case study approach with the interview and observation methods were also used in conducting the study. The study investigated the assessing of preservation of records at WDLG. The major findings of the study were that preservation of records is largely concerned with storage of records that take longer periods of time consistently referred to but occasionally needed for business in the ministry, these are records in all their formats, these records often safe guard crucial organization’s interest hence they need to be kept for as long they may be needed. Preservation of these records implies identifying the important ones are to be preserved for a longer period of time. The major conclusion made of the study was that records at WDLG should have proper management to maintain for example ensuring security programs, storage and more thus maintaining effectiveness and efficient of records management at WDLG. The major recommendation made of the study was that the records department should develop a preservation program and implement a program, the program should encompass all the activities of the records preservation activities at WDLG are clearly implemented and followed consistently, this will help the local government in achieving effectively in the preservation of its records. The records preservation program will bring together the policies, procedures which when put in to practice will yield efficiency and high quality standards of records preservation with in WDLG
