    Bioremediation of soil contaminated crude oil by Agaricomycetes

    Abstract
    Bioremediation of hydrocarbons in polluted soils is a promising treatment method which is based on the principle of complete mineralization of petroleum products into less toxic forms by different groups of microorganisms. This study entails the bioremediation of soil contaminated crude oil by Agaricomycetes a case study of Nakirebe village-Mpigi district. To carry out bioremediation of crude oil contaminated soils using mushrooms, soil samples were collected from an agricultural farm in Nakirebe village Mpigi district. The vegetative growth parameters of beans grown in remediated and un-remediated soils, soil sampling and growth of beans were determined. Data about germination index, plant height, leaf number, and leaf length, number of rootlets, leaf area and leaf area index was collected. All the results showed significant differences as 0.033939, 0.030019, 0.015637, and 0.022587 respectively considering P< 0.05. In view of the results obtained from this study, it can be concluded that mushrooms are good agents of bioremediation and can be used for detoxifying crude oil polluted soils for better farming yields.
