dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this project was to design online library storage and retrieval for Mulago school of nursing and midwifery library and the system has been designed to replace manual system. The project objectives were to; identify the services provided by Mulago school of nursing and midwifery library, examine the current storage and retrieval system, examine the existing challenges of the current storage and retrieval system such as long queues, tiresome and time consuming for both library users and librarian and design an information storage and retrieval system for Mulago School of nursing and midwifery library users to address the identifies challenges above. A case study research design was used while adopting a qualitative research approach. The data collection methods included: unstructured interviews, open ended questionnaires and participant observation. The Sample size of 19 respondents was used. Major finding was that, MSNMW – Information Storage and Retrieval System does not have an electronic Index. Other findings were: services offered by the for Mulago school of nursing and midwifery which include CAS, RA, User Education Service and others. Needs of the for Mulago school of nursing and midwifery library users for example an electronic Index. The current library services that is provided by for Mulago school of nursing and midwifery library is done manually with readers interacting with the registry staff face to face. The challenges that are faced in providing the service include inadequate resources, inadequate skilled personnel, poor network connectivity, inadequate funds and many others. Major recommendation was that the management of Information Storage and Retrieval System should adopt the proposed Information Storage and Retrieval System because it does not require a lot of money to develop. Other recommendations include: sensitization of users, training of library staff, allocating enough funds to the registry, purchasing more Registry equipment so that the library manual can be effectively provided by the Registry. In conclusion, from the above instance, if there is no electronic Index at the for Mulago School of Nursing and Midwifery Library, users will not be able to get the service effectively from the registry staff.en_US
