dc.description.abstractWaste management comprises of activities and actions required to manage waste from its inception or source to its final disposal, which includes collection, transportation and monitoring, and regulation of waste management process and waste-related technologies and economic mechanism. Poor abattoir waste management is evidenced by the pollution of water sources which results in excessive eutrophication of water sources and a decline in water quality, piles of manure, horns, bones and abattoir wastes spread onto the land Its indisputable that poor abattoir waste management posse hazardous health risks to humans, animals and ecosystem which undermines one Health, animal health and environmental health with various negative consequences including death. This research was done to establish knowledge, attitude, and practices about proper waste management and to establish the perception of the neighborhood community on waste disposal methods used at the abattoir. This cross-sectional study was therefore undertaken to assess abattoir waste management practices at Mbale Municipality Abattoir, located in Mbale district in Industrial division Malukhu village. Descriptive statistics and multivariate analysis were used to analyze the data, Waste management practices commonly practiced were rendering (33%) and followed by open burning (27%). The respondents considered bad stench (37%), vulture and marabou storks (23%), and health challenges (17%) are the most important way in which neighbors may be affected. The findings indicated that knowledge and attitude were a determinant of waste management. It was concluded that the waste practices adopted by abattoir workers were an important determinant of waste management. Fisher's exact = 0.816 is greater than the p-value = 0.05. So, we are 95% confident that there exists a relationship between the person's knowledge and the abattoir presence perception on the neighboring community and his/her comment of the various ways it does negatively affects the neighborhood.en_US
