dc.description.abstract | The study carried out covered the background to the study, statement to the problem, the main objectives of the study, specific objectives of the study, research questions and scope of the study, justification of the study and the definition of operational terms. The study was guided with three objectives and these included identifying different types of records at KDLG, identifying the challenges associated with records management Practices at KDLG and recommend possible solutions to the challenges faced records management at KDLG for effective records management. Thus the study assessed records management practices at KDLG adopting to descriptive survey research methods using questionnaires’ and interviews for data collection. The research population comprised of 6 records personnel and all of them participated in the study with 100% response rate.
The results indicated that all records at KDLG are in paper format of which most of these records are kept and maintained in the Central registry. Storage facilities for records keeping were insufficient, having unskilled records personnel, and also the results indicated that the records department at KDLG had never appraised or disposed its records ever since it was established. This resulted to records backlog in the Central registry. The study concluded that KDLG records were in chaos and recommended the formulation of a logical records management policy, adequate budgetary provisions construction or adopting a building to act as a Records Centre automation and digitization of records and periodical training or acquiring of records personnel. | en_US |
