Designing a records storage and retrieval system for diabetes patients in the Outpatient Department for Kibuli Muslim Hospital

Abstract

The project aimed at identifying different categories of patient records at Kibuli Muslim Hospital, analysing the current system used to store and retrieve patient casenotes, examining challenges and issues associated with the management of diabetes mellitus patients casenotes that could be solved and designing an electronic records storage and retrieval system for patients with diabetes mellitus in OPD. The project reviewed the existing literature on the topic of the project i.e., Significance of records management, types of storage and facilities that are being used to store patient case notes and other records, the procedures for storing and retrieving patient cases and other related records, challenges of the existing system and the drawn solutions to the challenges. The project adopted a non-experimental, qualitative, descriptive approach that was contextual. The researchers used interviewing and observation methods to collect data. To resolve records storage and retrieval shortcomings, the project aimed at designing a web-based records storage and retrieval system for diabetes mellitus patients records in OPD at Kibuli Muslim Hospital
