dc.description.abstractThe study aimed at developing an Information Resource Utilization Plan For Kyadondo Secondary School Library. The study objectives were to; identify current state of utilization of information resources, determine the challenges facing the utilization of information resources, identify the requirements for a plan for utilization of information resources and develop an information resource utilization plan for Kyadondo Secondary School Library. The study used a case study research design while adopting a mixed research design that is; both qualitative and quantitative research methods of data collection in the study. The study used a simple random sampling method to select 57 students, 5 teachers and 2 librarians who participated in the study. The study findings established that Kyadondo Secondary School Library is strategically located to ease access to information resources which include; text books/ monographs, journals, newspapers subscriptions, magazines, dictionaries, encyclopedias, electronic materials, audio and video materials, CD-ROM, practical’s videos, documentaries, history movies, plays (Luganda and Literature in English) among others. Library users visit to satisfy their needs such as; access to consultation services, reader services, and research services. The library offers services which include; library orientation, circulation service, assistance in locating library materials, exhibition and display, reference services, reading space. The challenges faced in delivering the library services at Kyadondo Secondary School Library were; poor library orientation, inadequate information materials, strict rules and regulations, unfriendly librarian, small reading room, lack of a library catalogue, inadequate funds, inadequate reading room, inadequate storage space, inadequate computers in the library, and low turn up for students during orientation. The requirements that respondents expected to be addressed by a Plan for Utilization of Information Resource for KSS Library include; the plan should be able to preserve and keep all the library resources, the need to promote faster access to information, the need to allow remote access to the information and the need for the plan to ease the search for the information resources. The results of the study showed that KSS library has adequate library resources or materials for use by students. It was also concluded that, the major purposes of students using the library are for personal studies, research and checkout for new books. Thus, there was need to develop an information resource utilization plan to promote access to information resources.en_US
