Many companies in particular the transportation companies are making huge losses of money that is spent on purchase of fuel for transportation of commodities or material of one location to another. This is due to the many loopholes associated with the manual fuel monitoring such as inefficiency in the calculating and analyzing the fuel ingestion and consumption by the vehicle. There are also some company drivers that go a step ahead to drain fuel from the vehicle and sell it. The automatic fuel monitoring systems that some companies are using are inefficient with poor network and cannot notify in case of fuel theft. This causes huge financial losses that these companies make and these arise due to fuel theft by the drivers or other individuals in areas where the vehicle is packed.
To address this issue, this project report presents a Smart Fuel Monitoring system that monitors fuel levels in the tanks and sends these readings to the admin of the system at real time with a graphical representation of how fuel is consumed by the vehicle. The system also locates the location of the vehicle and sends a notification message to the side of the admin in case of an instant drop in the fuel levels in the tank.
The system is an embedded system with web based interfaces on the side of the admin for monitoring. This makes the system to have two components the hardware and software components with the hardware consisting of the Arduino UNO board, Ultrasonic sensor and a Global Positioning System module for locating the vehicle location.
