Effects of study attitude on uptake of Biology subject at Advanced Level in Kiira Municipality

Abstract

Biology is one of the sciences in Uganda that is mandatory to all students at ordinary level. At Advanced Level, students are encouraged to take subject course with Biology having one of the subjects that serves the purpose of human health and medical science. Despite the importance, there is increased low rate of up-taking biology related courses. This forms the basis to study attitudes and the extent to which they are related to the uptake. Two specific objectives that will guide this study include to; establish the relationship between study attitude of students towards biology subject in mix and single schools; establish the relationship between factors for the uptake of biology subject among students in mixed and single schools. A corrective study design will be adopted and a sample of 400 students selected for using random sampling technique. Data will be collected using administered questionnaires and interviewing / interview guide. Analysis of the quantitative results will be done using the Scientific Package for the Social Scientist package known as the Pearson Correlation Coefficient and content analysis will be used for qualitative data.
