dc.description.abstractThe study to evaluate the visual status of Kampala-based truck drivers in Uganda was conducted in Kampala district. This targeted heavy truck drivers that had their stages within the boundaries of Kampala district. 371 truck drivers took pert in the study. Of these, 6.5% (24) of the truck drivers had vision worse than 6/9, 93.5% (347) of the truck drivers had vision better than 6/9. The prevalence of refractive error among the truck drivers was 5.93%. 59.8% the truck drivers had presbyopia as their near visual impairment. 99.5% had good (FULL) visual fields and 0.5% had abnormal visual fields. 98.9% had good color vision, 1.1% had poor color vision. 52% had normal stereopsis, 38% had borderline stereopsis and only 10% had low stereopsis. In conclusion, this survey assessed the visual status of Kampala-based truck drivers in terms of VA, color vision, stereopsis, and visual fields, providing data that could be essential in policy making and re-enforcement especially in the acquisition and renewal of drivers’ licenses.en_US
