Enhancing security library materials at National Environment Management Authority library
Abstract
The study was carried out at NEMAL. The aim of the study was to enhance the security of library materials, in order to prevent theft, vandalism, and mutilation of library materials,to help users access all the information they need anytime efficiently and effectively. The objectives that guided the project were to identify library materials at NEMAL, to find out the current security measures of library materials at Nemal, library, to establish challenges faced during the security of library materials at NEMAL, and to develop guidelines for enhancing security of library materials that would address challenges at the library. the researcher used a qualitative and quantitative research designs and this sought to describe the findings in details. the researcher called data from 2o respondents, several data collection methods where used and included, interviews, questionnaires and observations. it also involved data analysis and ethical considerations,. Major findings of the study were identified according to the respondents's views over library, and it was discovered that the library had challenges in the security of library materials such as mutilation, and vandalism by users, human behaviours , theft, climate control, dust, absence of a library database, delay of materials by users that borrow them. Researcher recommends that in order to enhance the security of library materials at NEMAL increase the number computers that are in the library, improve on the internet connectivity, construct a cloakroom, and CCTV cameras should be improved and functioning properly, create a library database . Conclusions drawn according to the research findings of the study most of the respondents agreed that enhancing the security of library materials would benefit them. The researcher recommends that NEMAL should adopt the proposed guidelines .
