This study is aimed at assessing the impacts of clay excavation on cultivation in luzira wetland. The study was carried out in 6 random selected villages in luzira parish, Nakawa division and a sample of 60 respondents was used. The study employed a survey research an approach which used a combination of methods to collect quantitative data. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires and interview guide analyzed using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). some of the people interviewed had accessed the wetland degradation information by cultivation. Some revealed that they usually get information from radios, and some from televisions, some from newspapers, and others from the government extension workers on wetland degradation and protection. However, the results from the study also revealed that most of the residents of luzira have no knowledge about wetland degradation and protection. Therefore, in addition to what has been researched and suggested, this study will help to fill the gap of informing authorities about the local community’s less knowledge towards wetland management and also the factors that influence people to degrade the wetlands through clay excavation for sustainability of the wetland resources despite the fact that they are aware of effects that they cause to the environment through clay excavation. This study is thus valuable to different categories of stakeholders; farmers, fishermen, researchers, the local government as well as NGOs involved in environmental conservation.
