dc.description.abstractDue to the serious emergence of resistance against several already established antibacterial agents, there is need for the development of efficacious alternatives. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is known as one of the troublesome pathogens causing significant morbidity due to hospital acquired infections, especially in the Intensive Care Unit. In this study, the combined effect of ceftazidime and the ethanolic plant extract of Mangifera indica were assessed for activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which was originally sensitive to ceftazidime. The broth dilution method was used to determine MICs and FICIs. In the test the results were as follows: the test strain of Pseudomonas was susceptible to ceftazidime with an MIC of 0.067 mg/ml; our crude plant extract of Mango leaf gave an MIC of 60mg/ml; the FICI was calculated to be 0.845 when used in combination. These findings suggest that there is an additive effect when ceftazidime is used in combination with Mango plant extract. Therefore, more studies need to be done to establish the pharmacology of the Mango plant extract.en_US
