Assessing the effect of organic coffee production on smallholder farmers coffee income in Chema sub-county Kapchorwa district
Abstract
The main objective of the study was to assess the effect of organic coffee production on smallholder farmers coffee income in chema sub-county kapchorwa district. The specific objectives included identifying the different agronomic practices carried out by this farmers, constraints faced by the farmers. The study used primary data collected from chema sub-county after sampling the target population
Cross sectional study design was used for both qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection. Quantitative methods where applied through reviews of published articles to attain greater knowledge and understanding of the topic. Qualitative methods enabled the researcher to obtain the data collected in time and a sample was taken from organic coffee farmers from the sub-county. The data was analyzed using univariate and regression analysis, the data also presented in percentages for easy comparison
The findings indicates that organic coffee production is not profitable as witnessed by the low profits earned by the farmers
