Engendering the empowerment of women through inheritance rights: an analysis of the succession (Amendment) Act, 2022
Abstract
This study examines the Succession (Amendment) Act, 2022, with the main purpose to examine engendering of empowerment of women through inheritance rights. Using a feminist lens, the study reveals that the Succession (Amendment) Act, 2022 fails to adequately provide for equitable women’s inheritance rights. It thus impedes the empowerment of women through inheritance rights. The study contributes to an analysis of the Succession (Amendment) Act, 2022. I review the history of succession law in Uganda, and also give an analysis of the legal and regulatory framework of inheritance law in Uganda. As a way towards empowering women through inheritance rights, it is proposed that the Succession (Amendment) Act, 2022 be amended.
