This research was mainly done to assess the ecological implications of rice growing in lwera swamp. The main objectives that were focused on where to find out the extent of rice growing in Lwera swamp, the nature of rice growing, and the ecological implication of rice growing. Review in terms of literature was put in consideration in order to acquainted with more knowledge about the research topic. The data collection methods that were used include the following: questionnaires, focus discussion and GIS to find out the extent of rice over the ten years. The study finding revealed when the activity of rice growing actually began, how it has grown over time, the ecological implications of rice growing. This included: massive rice growing began in 2015 by the Xhong company on about 600 acres of land and currently, its about 4000 acres of land. Ecological effects included the loss of the ability to filter water, natural habitats, spread of water borne diseases, reduction in the catchment area and drainage system. Basing on the above, conclusions were made which enabled the researcher to give recommendation based on the case study.en_US
