Diversity and abundance of ornamental fish species in Lake Nabugabo ecosystem

The study was carried out in July 2022 and determined the diversity and relative abundance of potential ornamental fish species from different sampling points collected from Lake Nabugabo ecosystem and describing their morphological characteristics that attribute to being a potential ornamental fish. Physical-chemical water parameters were measured at different sampling points in the field to know whether the water parameters were suitable for the fish species in captivity. Diversity and relative abundances of the surviving fish were determined using the Shannon-Weiner’s diversity index (H). Seven fish species were collected from the sampling points that’s Petro lagoon, Kazi lagoon ,Snake lagoon and Gnatho lagoon and these include; Pseudocrenilabrus multicolor victoriae, Oreochromis niloticus, Oreochromis varibilis , Ctenopoma murei, Synodontis victoriae, Barbus grahmi and Neochromis. Pseudocrenilabrus multicolor victoriae were the most relatively abundant species whereas Ctenopoma murei was the least relatively abundant.
