dc.description.abstract | Farmer’s perception of the erosion risk relates with their decision to adopt risk and their decision to adopt its mitigation measures. This research assesses farmer’s awareness of the erosion risk and examining the adopted management practices. The hypotheses tested were; (a) farmers perception of the erosion risk does not correspond with their decision to adopt the management practices; (b) the adoption level of soil conservation practices is a reflection of both their technical performance and the degree of acceptability by local farmers. Farmers believed that management of these slopes should combine agronomic and structural measures. On the gentle slopes, sheet wash was perceived to be a weak indicator of erosion risk.
Enhancement in crop yields and farm incomes, increased women’s participation in decision making and their access to resources as well as their job opportunities which are the socio-economic benefits.Respondents indicated from the project, whilst soil fertility and soil moisture improvement, reduction in soil erosion and reduction in number of bushfire cases were the ecological impacts of the project highlighted by the respondents. The respondents generally preferred the agronomic technologies which have “short-term returns” | en_US |
