Widal test is one of the longest serving methods for detection of typhoid fever. Thistest has been in use until it was recently banned by MOH. Despite the ban, there is continuous use and violation of protocol. This study aimed at establishing number of facilities still using Widal test, their level of adherence to SOPs and to demonstrate the effect of protocol completion on the results.A cross-section study was carried out between June and July 2022 among facilities around Makerere University. This study largely covered privately owned facilities that had existed for at least 6 months. A total of 45 facilities were studied and sample aliquot were obtained from only those using Widal test. The samples obtained were transported to the testing site (ELIMOS) and re-tested using both rapid screening slide test and tube test simultaneously as required by the protocol. The testing was carried out following strict SOPs, using standard quality-controlled O and H Antigens and using micropipettes. Data obtained was analyzed using IBM SPSS Version 20.It was concluded that many facilities still use Widal test and majority do not adhere to protocol. Those that adhered had better results. A need to adhere to Widalprotocol and more studies on sensitivity and specificity, TAT and cost ofWidal compared to other tests be carried out.en_US
