This study was about A Strategy for Enhancement of Access to Information Materials of University of Kisubi Library. The study was guided by the following objectives: To examine the type of information materials in the University of Kisubi Library so as to enhance their access, To investigate the enhancement of access to information materials at University of Kisubi Library, To find out the challenges for enhancing access to information materials at University of Kisubi Library, To design strategies for enhancing access to information materials at University of Kisubi Library. The purpose of the study was to find out strategies on how to enhance access to information materials. The researcher used qualitative, quantitative and purposive methods in collecting data. The researcher also used the questionnaire and interview as data collection methods, then the questionnaire and interview guide as the data collection instruments. From the findings the researcher found out that there was need to enhance access to information materials, some respondents agreed that some especially science textbooks were not available, those available were very few. The researcher also found out that out of the 25 respondents 14(56%) were male, 11(44%) were female, the Librarians interviewed were 4 in number. 03(12%) of the respondents were pursuing Certificates, 10(40%) of the respondents were pursuing Diplomas and 12(48%) of the respondents were pursuing Degrees. One respondent said, "whenever he goes to the Library he gets the information materials he wants", six (6) respondents said, ''whenever they visit the Library they fail to get some of the science textbooks that contain the information that they need". The other respondents were satisfied with the copies of information materials provided because they had the capability to buy their own personal copies of textbooks they needed to use yet were not available in the Library. From the findings through the interview with Librarians the researcher found out that; the two ladies at the circulation desk, one works in the morning shift and the other works in the evening shift. They said, "Textbooks borrowed out of the Library on the daily basis range from 5 to 10 books. The reference sources mostly consulted by users include: Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, Theses, Dissertations, Yearbooks and so on. Users access information materials through consulting Library staff over the counter of the reserve section". The strategies recommended by the researcher include the card catalog and a display area so as to enhance access to information materials. A typical card catalog would list items by author, title and subject or might combine all three into one alphabetically arranged system. A typical card in the Catalog would provide complete bibliographic information on the item. For books that would include author, title, and place of publication, publisher and date of publication. The purpose of a Library display is to communicate meaning through a collection of items (bibliographic, physical or digital).en_US
