dc.description.abstractLivestock production is an occupation to a large portion of the Ugandan population country wide and it is important in the livelihoods of many people. Despite contributing to poverty eradication and food security, productivity of the livestock subsector is still low. Therefore this study aimed towards improved livestock nutrition through determination of the nutritional profile of chicken manure collected from different poultry production systems particularly Crude Protein (CP). Results indicate that crude protein content of chicken manure from the two production systems ranged between 8.686% and 5.858% DM and was not significantly different (P> 0.001) between the production systems. The highest crude protein composition, 8.686% was observed in chicken manure from battery cage system and the lowest, 5.858% in chicken manure from free range system. Generally, highest values for CP, were observed in chicken manure from battery cage system and the lowest values reported for manure from free range system. Therefore chicken manure collected from different poultry production systems contains significant amounts of crude protein, dry matter and ash for inclusion in livestock rations.en_US
