dc.description.abstractThe thesis presents a collection that has been submitted for examination, which investigates the challenges during recruitment selection and the placement of workers in the hospitality industry in Uganda based on the case study of three hotels which are of different star rates that is to say Royal Suites Hotel Bugolobi, Makerere University Guest House and Acadia Suites Hotel Kampala Uganda amidst the covid-19 pandemic. When the covid-19 broke out in 2019. The hospitality industry faced a lot of challenges which resulted into its backwardness and economic downfall therefore, this thesis is motivated in part by the fact that the assessment of these challenges that were faced amidst the pandemic allowed for a better forecast by the Human Resource Manager and other workers in the industry on how to overcome such challenges in case of any other phase of a pandemic. The first two chapters of the research explores a critical background about the Human Resource Management in the hospitality industry. The outbreak of the covid-19 pandemic on the global base, Africa, Uganda further to the case studies that were chosen. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, there was high rate of economic downfall since it resulted into the shutdown and lockdown of different cities. Human Resource Managers were able to come up with different practices such as laying off of some workers, reduction on the salary of the workers who remained at work, change from fulltime to casual workers. Furthermore, in this chapter, it continues to show the main research objectives which involves the reason as to why the thesis is being carried out that is to say, to examine what HRM changes were made amidst the pandemic. In chapter three, it’s made up of methodology that is to say the methods that were used while collecting the data. The research design includes both the qualitative and quantitative research design. Study area which is took place in three places Royal Suites Hotel, MUGH, and Acardia Suites hotel with a sample population size of about 53 respondents. The data collection tools include; the questionnaire, documentaries and online reviews, use of sample, focus groups and interviews were both used to collect the data. In the fourth and fifth chapter, it involves the presentation of findings and analysis of data, whereby the data collected using different research instruments is presented discussed and triangulated with each other, in order to pick up the research findings. The main objective of this study was to investigate the challenges faced during recruitment, selection and placement of workers in the hospitality industry. Therefore in order to achieve the research objectives data needed was collected using questionnaire method and qualitative approach. The data was analyzed using (SPSS) and analysis of variance techniques such as (T-Test) and summarized accordingly as shown in the paper below. (Findings, conclusion and recommendations).en_US
