dc.description.abstract | This study aimed to compare the level of microbial quality of herbal and non-sterile pharmaceutical medicines in Bwaise Kampala Uganda. Fungal and bacterial loads of herbal and non-sterile pharmaceutical medicine were estimated by estimating total plate counts for viable fungal and bacterial cells. To determine the safety as indicated by the absence of pathogenic strains , samples were also plated on the Xylose Lysine Deoxycholate (XLD) medium, selective for Salmonella spp. It was observed that Herbal medicines were significantly more contaminated by both bacteria and fungi than non-sterile pharmaceutical medicines and that two samples of herbal medicines had Salmonella Typhi present that is Bummu herbal and Lubyamira herbal A Dissertation submitted to the Dmixture (1.31×105 and 7.1×104) respectively | en_US |
