The project purpose was to investigate the records management system used at Luwero hospital. The project objectives were to find out the various types of records created at Luwero hospital, to find out the existing records management system at Luwero hospital, to find out the challenges of the current records management system at Luwero hospital, to find out the requirements for designing a computerized patient records management system at Luwero hospital, to design a computerized records management system for Luwero hospital. Mixed methods of research were adopted for this particular study. A sample size of 44 respondents was targeted and the sampling method used was purposive sampling. The study concluded that based on the research findings, Luwero hospital paediatric department needs a computerized records management system. This is because the findings revealed that records are poorly stored due to limited storage space and lack of electronics like computers to store electronic files. By computerizing the existing system of records management, Luwero hospital medical staff will not only store documents online but also easily access and retrieve them. The study strongly recommended the implementation of a comprehensive staff training to equip the medical staff with technical and computer skills so as to help them create and maintain records electronically. The study as well recommended the administration of Luwero hospital to provide financial support for buying electronic storage equipment like computers that will aid in the management of records.en_US
