Employment Opportunities And Job Market For The Graduates Of Margaret Trowel School Of Industrial And Fine Art
Abstract
This paper addresses the unemployment and poor job market for the graduates of Margaret Trowel School of Industrial and Fine Art in Makerere University. Much as these graduates have the skill and knowledge to work, they find it difficult to secure a stable employment opportunity and if they are to get one, they get a job that is not exactly meant for their skill set or what they had studied and specialized for. This therefore dictates that in Uganda there is a poor job market for the artists. Art as a profession is a fruitful occupation but in Uganda, there is a negative attitude towards art and hence leading to unemployed artists and poor job market. This negative attitude comes as a result of lack of knowledge from the public about the works of art produced from here in Uganda. The negative attitude is also brought about by the influence of art of the western world which causes the natives of Uganda to under look Ugandan artwork.
