A survey on learning photography online during COVID-19

Due to the outbreak of the world’s pandemic, almost all the economy in the world was affected. Coronavirus was announced a worldwide pandemic diseases by World Health Organization on March, 11, 2020 and many strategies were put forward to cope up and reduce the number of people being affected.In Uganda COVID 19 led to a total lockdown 18th may 2020 whereby all schools came to a closure including higher institutions of learning. Then E-learning quickly became a crucial tool for many learning institutions during pandemic. This was a sudden shiftThis survey was aimed at examining the challenges that were faced by photography students learning online during COVID-19 pandemic and the general view on online learning environment and suggested interventions and the general student’s perspective of online learning. The objectives of the study were to; identify the challenges/ obstacle of online learning that the photography students faced, and suggest interventions for continuity of learning by students at Makerere University. An online descriptive survey design was followed and convenience sampling of students from MTISA. The Data collection methods used were a questionnaire, and the instrument used was a questionnaire guide, interviews here an interview guide was designed and personal experiment. A total number of about 20photography students participated in this study.The study revealed that the most significant challenges that students face with online learning; expensive cost of data, failure to log in into MUELE, network problems while attending lectures online ‘off and on’, home responsibilities, submitting large files of images, participating in the lecture, failure to beat the deadline of assignments, balancing work and school, paying attention in the lecture due to distractions around the environment that they are in, sometimes the work submitted may not show on the MUELE platform and accessing Makerere University E-learning Environment system (MUELE).
