The effects of inadequate sculpting materials and tools at Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Art through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Abstract
Sculpture is an elective course at the Makerere University Margaret
Trowell School Of Industrial and Fine Arts that mostly deals with the
sculpting, modelling human faces, wood carving and sculpture
fabrication among others.
Many art materials are used in sculpture and these include clay, Soap,
wood, metal, beads, fossil materials, grass, plastics, carbon fibre among
others. Tools used include Drills, saws, sanding machines, trowels,
chisels etc. But as this research was carried out, I have found out that
most of the materials have not been provided by the university and
some have not been used by students due to the way they are
unavailable to them financially. The inadequacy of the materials has
hindered students from exploring different techniques and styles in
upgrading and updating their knowledge that is needed to have the
outside world in production of quality work.
Sculpture as a discipline in Margaret Trowell School Of Industrial and
Fine Arts, is an elective course that enables students to upgrade their
knowledge in the daily sculpture needs in order to attain information
that will be necessary to their development financially and production
of relevant and nice work out there. Furthermore, year two students
whoare offering Sculpture as an elective most have experience in the
coursethrough the introduction that was done in the First year. This has
given the students the basic principles that are needed in the courses
