dc.description.abstractBackground: This project focused on developing the ethical code of conduct, the management and use of medical records of Kampala hospital that encompass essential guidelines and standards that guide responsible medical record management that ensures data privacy, confidentiality, data security, data integrity and data use this study is aimed to develop an ethical code of conduct and management of medical records. This study was carried out at Kampala hospital. Objectives: The study was based on different objectives such as to find out the types of medical records that are created, received and managed at Kampala Hospital to find out how the medical records are managed, used, stored, retrieved, to find out the challenges in the medical records department, to find out who shares the medical records .to establish recommendations on how to ensure privacy of medical records. Methodology: The study was based on a case study design and conducted using qualitative and quantitative research approach, the data was gathered from a sample of 8 respondents selected purposely from the staff using including literature interviews with healthcare stakeholders, and surveys, to comprehensively understand and address key aspects of medical record management. Study: The study found out that there are no clear ethical code guidelines and procedure to follow in the management of medical records and guidelines for secure record management at the records department of Kampala hospital. It also confronts challenges in this domain, including data breaches and compliance issues. The outcome is a comprehensive Ethical Code of Conduct that, when diligently implemented alongside recommended measures, ensures the highest standards of medical record management, enhancing patient trust and data integrity at Kampala Hospital. Therefore, the study proposed some solutions to confine the challenges experienced and these include, training records management staff, provision of adequate funds and buying modified equipment’s. The above study results enriched us with the information that was used to develop the ethical code of conduct that will facilitate proper management of medical records of Kampala hospitalen_US
