This project focused on developing a strategy of health records security in the Registry at Ministry of Health given that researchers found out that there are weak security measures of health records. The project objectives were find out the types of records received, generated and kept in the registry, examining the security existing on health records, to find out different formats in which health records are kept, find out the measures used in health record security, to find out
requirements used in health records security, to find out the problems faced in securing health records and to identify the possible solutions that can overcome problems in security records.So there was a need to come up with the proposal of putting up a strategy to improve and strengthen security for health records at MoH. The study was based on a case study designed and conducted using a qualitative research approach and data was gathered from a sample of four (4) respondents selected purposively from among the registry staff using an interview guide and observation guide.The study found that there were weak measures used to manage the strong security of health record in the registry at Ministry of Health which resulted into misfiling, misplacement, and destruction of files/health records.The study proposed some solutions to avert the challenges such as; educating the public about the security of health records and its purpose, training records management staff, provision of adequate funds, recruitment of more professional staff, among others. Therefore, the output of the study was developing a strategy for health records security to comprise a comprehensive retention and disposal schedules to avoid overdue storage and premature destruction and misfiling of health records in registry of MoH.
