dc.description.abstract | A significantly high loss in agricultural yield of livestock production, worldwide, is attributed to the ticks infectation of livestock, parasitic Rappendiculatus is one of the key parasites of livestock worldwide, causing reduction in livestock production and decreases productive life of livestock fields. The most effective remedy against these livestock parasites pauses a great environmental concern since acaricides are some of the most highly toxic chemical parasticides on market. In this study, aqueous fruit juice extracts of Solanum incanum and dried bark extracts of Albizia coraria were tested for their acaricidal potential against R appendiculatus. Acaricidal effect of these extracts was evaluated. Fruit juice extracts of Solanum incanum and dried bark extracts of Albizia coraria demonstrated significant in-vitro acaricidal activity against R appendiculatus, Insignificant mortality of the parasites was observed in the control treatment. The percentage mortality (acaricidal effect) increased with increase in the concentration of exposure. Dried bark of extract of Albizia coraria demonstrated a high acaricidal effect against R appendiculatus compared to fruit juice extracts of Solanum incanum. The two plant extracts did have a synergistic effect against R appendiculatus. The results obtained in the study demonstrated the potential of using extracts Solanum incanum and Albizia coraria as potential substitutes of chemical acaricides in the control of R appendiculatus affecting livestock production. | en_US |
