Influence of aircraft movements on Civil Aviation Authority’s revenues: A case study of Entebbe International Airport

Abstract

This study was conducted at Entebbe International Airport in Wakiso District. The purpose of the study was influence of aircraft movements on Civil Aviation Authority’s revenues specifically if an increase in the air crafts have a significant effect on total CAA revenues. The research methodology for the study was quantitative which relied on the collection of quantitative data and a total of ten years was used for the analysis. The data was analyzed using MS Excel and STATA. The study revealed that a general upward trend in the total revenues. The study results also indicated that 2009 had the least growth rate for the air crafts of -9.34% compared to 8.93% in 2008. The study results indicated that a unit increase in number of aircrafts increases total revenues by million shillings. Since the P-value (0.0042) was less than the critical value (0.05), it can be implied that aircraft movements influence/have a significant effect on CAA revenues. The study recommended that Civil Aviation Authority and the government create, encourage and support more airlines as well as aircrafts to operate locally and internationally. The study suggested similar studies should be taken particularly on other aerodromes and also on analysis of the factors affecting the expansion of the airport.
