    Abstract
    Due to the fact that Nkumba university library is using the manual system to register the library users and mainly it is a paper based system, such records are expensive to store. They are also easy to destroy and difficult to retrieve. Therefore the study aimed at designing an automated library user registration system for Nkumba university library which will help to improve efficiency, productivity and generally good services to the library. This research project was carried out at Nkumba University under the library department and it aimed at designing an automated library user registration system for Nkumba university library. The research report consists of six chapters; Chapter one; it consist of background of the study, statement of the problem, scope, aim and objectives of the study, research questions, justification of the study and definition of key terms. Chapter two: it’s the literature review and it is the related literature that is published according to the topic Chapter three: it’s about the research methodology, it contains the area of study, research design, population of study, sampling, data collection methods which include the questionnaire, interview of which the research instruments are; questionnaires and interview guide. It also has ethical issues and limitations o the study. Chapter four: it includes the analysis and presentation which include findings and data was presented in numbers using tables. Chapter five: includes designing a new system, a user requirement that is functional of the proposed system and non- function for the automated system. Chapter six: includes summary of findings, conclusion and the recommendations of the project
