dc.description.abstractThe project report presents guidelines for enhancing information literacy for the library users at Kololo High School Library. The project aimed at developing guidelines for enhancing information literacy for Kololo High SS Library services. The objectives of the study were; To find out the role of libraries in creating a literate environment at Kololo High School, to find out the challenges faced by individuals in creating literate environments at Kololo High School, to establish strategies and opportunities of literacy learning in the information age at Kololo High School and to come up with guidelines for enhancing information literacy at Kololo High School. The study used a case study research design while adopting qualitative research approach. Data collection methods included: unstructured Questionnaire and interviews, participant observation and document reviews to collect data on information literacy. The study used a sample size of 37 who included: 37 (100%) targeted respondents 5 (13.6%) were teachers, 1 (2.7%) librarian, 1 (2.7%) Lab attendant and 30 (81%) students. Data was analyzed using Microsoft Excel software. The findings of the study revealed that: there were various services offered by the library including information resources but they are not maximally utilized by the library users. Further, Books are most preferred than electronic resources and patrons are highly comfortable with them. The study also indicates that the library and Internet are most needed components to enable access to library resources. It was also found out that the benefits of using information literacy in access of information resources outweighed the challenges. The study also identified challenges in the information literacy, included: limited user education, computer illiteracy and limited skills among the library staff. The study therefore concluded that in order to maximally utilize the available library resources at Kololo High library services, a user tool/manual was important. The study recommends adoption of the developed Guidelines for enhancing information literacy to access and utilize library information resources. Other recommendations include: Continuous literacy programs which should be carried out by the administration of the library since the library users range from beneficiaries, potential and actual users of the resources so as to equip each type of user with the necessary skills for accessing and utilizing of the library’s information resources to their full potential.en_US
