This project aimed at designing a current awareness programme for YMCA Comprehensive Institute, Buwambo campus in order to enhance information access to students and staff of the institute. The objectives of the study were to identify the status and means through which Current awareness service is provided at YMCA library, identify and document challenges faced when carrying out CAS at YMCA library, and to develop a CAS program to raise awareness for YMCA library users. The study used qualitative research approach. Data was collected using interview guide for the librarian and the observation checklist. The study established various challenges faced by both the patrons and the librarian in disseminating information about new acquisitions, happenings inside the library and users in receiving information with current communication channels for example inadequate space on the small library notice board, user’s unwillingness to use the notice board. Findings revealed that YMCA needed that programme of sending txt messages and emails to its users in order to make it easy for all the library patrons to get that information about the new arrivals so that they get up dated at all times. If YMCA agrees to host a proposed CAS programme, it be possible to provide better and timely services that will lead to increased promotion of library activities, services and utilization of the library materials. The researcher also recommends that after hosting that programme of sending text messages and emails to users, the institute should also train the librarian in order to make current awareness program rise and shine in the institute library.
