Specifically, the study sought to identify the various types of performance appraisal approaches used; finding out whether reward and promotion has an influence on and productivity of employees and establishing a relationship between performance appraisal approaches used at Lira Municipal Council and employee productivity. To operationalize these objectives, the study adopted a descriptive survey design to answer the research hypotheses of this study. Questionnaires were administered to the sampled staff at Lira District Local Government that consented to the study and analysis was strictly done at two levels, at the univariate and bivariate levels. Univariate data analysis was also carried out in form of descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentages were and inferential statistics with the aid of a Chi-square ( 2 ). All respondents were aged 19-54 years of age. Of these group, 70% were aged 30 years and above years, 28.0% were aged 20-30 years and 2% were aged less than 19 years. A significant positive relationship between promotional rewards and employee performance. The study findings indicated that those that were appraised depending on their total output were found to be above average scores than those whose remuneration was based on behavioral efficiency. The government must put up strategies like approving salary scale for staffs as well as extending preferential treatment to its workers such as provision of staff housing, free medical care, transport allowances at least to optimum level, which will be able cater for various needs.
