dc.description.abstract | The study aimed at assessing the management of active records at Kawolo Hospital with an aim of suggesting better ways of managing active records. The study was done under the following objectives: to identify the types of records generated and maintained by Kawolo Hospital, to assess the storage of medical records in Kawolo Hospital, to find out the challenges faced in managing medical records and to suggest possible solutions to problems faced in storage of records at Kawolo Hospital.
The study was mainly quantitative and it used questionnaires as the main research instruments to collect data from the field. The study also used interview guides to get information from workers who were directly involved in records management. The researcher collected data from 50 respondents which included record officers, administrators and the entire staff of Kawolo Hospital.
The study established that Kawolo Hospital generates a lot of records ranging from test results, progress notes, orders and prescriptions, recruitment records, administrative records and financial records. The study further established that record at Kawolo Hospital are stored by ensuring good record management practices like medical record handling, storage and retrieval, classification of records, disposal and destruction, security and coding.
The study stressed that Kawolo Hospital faces a number of challenges in managing medical records which include lack of confidentiality, lack of skills in records management, misplacing or misfiling of records, lack of standards to interchange information, unstable power supply to run machines like computers and other electronic equipments at the hospital
The study recommended Kawolo Hospital to train its workers in records management, employ qualified staff in records management, buy more equipment, increase on the funds given to records department, provide more space for records, and provide record management manuals to record officers. | en_US |
