dc.description.abstractABSTRACT The study was concerned with assessing the preservation of paper records in AHPC’s registry. Preservation of paper records is one of the great values of records management to almost all organizations in the world. AHPC uses a number of procedures to preserve its paper records. The study was done to achieve the resultant objectives: to identify the types of paper records preserved in AHPC’s registry, to find out the current status of preservation of paper records in AHPC’s registry, to examine the challenges of preservation of paper records in AHPC’s registry and to suggest possible solutions to preservation of paper records in AHPC’s registry. A case study and survey research design were used in the study. The research instruments in the study were observation and interview guides. The researcher centered focus on key respondents who were the records personnel of AHPC by interviewing them because they had reliable information about the study topic. The study established that AHPC generates and holds a number of records which include academic records, legal records, medical records, human resource records, administrative records and financial records. The study revealed that AHPC uses different mechanisms to preserve its paper records which include duplicating or dispersal of records, micro filming, lamination, binding and dusting. The study further stressed that preservation of paper records at AHPC’s registry is faced with a number of challenges ranging from limited storage equipments, dust and lack of adequate resources, poor handling of information materials, inadequate qualified staff and inadequate funds. In conclusion, the study recommends AHPC to employ qualified records personnel, increasing of funds given to the resource centre of AHPC, training the existing staff, proper management of information materials, provision of more space for preserving the increasing number of paper records and dusting in order to improve on preservation of its records.en_US
