Preservation and conservation of archives today is an important aspect of information management in organisations. Archives require proper management to support core functions of the organisation, provide evidence of business transactions, promote the image of the organisation, ensure continuity of business activities and pass on information to the future generations. The aim of the study was to analyse the preservation and conservation of archives at UBC, with a view of suggesting solutions to problems affecting preservation and conservation at the organization. The objectives of the study were to find out the types of archives maintained by UBC, to analyze the existing preservation and conservation methods for archives in UBC, to further find out the challenges affecting preservation and conservation of archives at UBC and lastly to suggest solutions to the challenges affecting preservation and conservation of archives at UBC. The study was carried out at Uganda Broadcasting Services (UBC) with a sample comprising of six people which included Library and Archives staff who included Records managers, Record Assistants, Librarian and some administrative staff like IT Specialist and Human Resource Officer. The study used quantitative and qualitative research design and that is the reason why interviews, observation and document review were used as data collection methods. Findings indicate that the different types of archives managed at UBC include: audio, video, visual films, photographs and negatives, digital records, maps, blue prints and office documents. The preservation methods used include: digitization, cleaning and dusting, deacidification, photocopying, shelving, air conditioning, adequate ventilation, migration, play back, duplication and proper storage and handling. Some of the challenges in preservation and conservation include: technological obsolescence, mishandling by humans, lack of adequate funding, limited qualified staff, and lack of a heavy duty laminating machines among others. Some strategies suggested include: environmental controls, training and increase of staff members and making security copies. The researcher recommended enough staffing for the UBC archives, air-conditioning archives storage rooms, fumigation methods, and provision of adequate staffing for the archives.en_US
