dc.description.abstractThis dissertation was about the preservation and conservation of records at Post bank Uganda limited in the department of ‘back-office’ registry and the records centre. For any organization to effectively run its business activities there must a clear laid down archival management system because they are the backbone of any organization for its success through planning and implementation. Due to the poor preservation and conservation a tBank there were challenges of files getting misplaced and not found , delays in accessing files when needed which had caused delays in responding to queries from staffs and users of the records and also wasted time thus rendering service provision ineffective. This called for proper management of these records thus prompting the researcher to undertake the study in order to define how best such records could be managed for easy retrieval and improved service delivery in Post Bank Uganda Limited.Therefore this dissertation was guided by the following objectives; To identify the types of records and archives preserved and the preservation practices; To identify the materials used in preserving of records and archives management; To identify the security measures used in the preservation and conservation of the records and archives; To identify the challenges associated with preservation and conservation of these records and archives and find out the possible solutions used to solve the challenges in preservation and conservation of records and archives. Chapter three presented the methodology that was used which was the purposive sampling technique, the data collection method which was the qualitative method, the data collection instruments which included the interview guide that took place in the ‘back-office’ registry department on the records manager and other staff at large, the observation guide whereby the researcher observed the records management practices that is to say safety of information which was through backing up, storing files in non-acidic boxes and cabinets too among others. Chapter four showed the presentation, analysis and discussion of the study findings which included the types of record,categories of materials kept by the records centre, how records were preserved and conserved which was through mainly dusting,scanning,binding etc. and finally Chapter five presented a summary which included the preservation and conservation of records, challenges of the records and possible solutions, this chapter also presented a conclusion which consisted of the categories of records kept and the equipments were they were kept,recommendations were also made that is to say increasing staff .en_US
