dc.description.abstractSubstance use is now a major public health concern affecting the lives of many teenagers in Uganda. Despite the overwhelming intervention strategies by the Government, non-government organizations, and many other keen stakeholders to curb the problem of drug and substance abuse especially among the youth the number of youth being taken up into the act of drug abuse seems to be escalating day by day. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and factors associated with substance use among teenagers in Wanyange village, Jinja district in Uganda. Methods The study used cross-section study design and quantitative methods for data collection. Convenient sampling was used to select the study participants. The International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI) assessment tool was used to assess for abuse and dependence. Data was entered and analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0. Descriptive statistics and logistic regression were used to answer the study objectives. Results: A total of 308 teenagers participated in the study: males (59.7%), females (40.3%), Christians (68.8%), Moslems (31.2%). The prevalence of substance abuse among teenagers in Wanyangeen_US
