dc.description.abstractThis study was carried out on Assessing the classification and filing of active records at the National Curriculum Development Centre with guidelines that will assist in improving the filing and classification at the Curriculum Development Centre. The study was done under the following objectives to establish the current status of classing and filing of active records at NCDC, to find out how filing and classification of active records are managed at NCDC, to identify the challenges of classification and filing of active records at NCDC and to suggest the possible suggestions for the best practices in storage and retrieval of active records at the NCDC. The study used three data collection techniques of document analysis interview and observation. The researcher collected data about the classification and filing of active records at the NCDC and he purposively selected respondents from the registry these included records officers, records manager and internee. The study established that NCDC generates a number of records which range from administrative records, financial records, legal records. The study also stressed that NCDC faces a number of challenges that affect the classification and filing of active records and the common challenges to both practices included, poor maintenance of registries, misfiling, misclassification, missorting, poor handling of information materials limited funds, limited equipment and inadequate classified staff. The researcher concluded by establishing recommendations and strategies to overcome challenges to the classification and filing of active records which include employing qualified staff, training existing staff, acquiring more equipment, increasing funds, proper sorting, digitalization of records and creating staff awareness on the importance of records.en_US
