dc.description.abstractThe study project was entitled: “a virtual library catalogue for Kawempe Community Library” was carried out at Kawempe Community Library. The aim of this project was to propose a virtual library catalogue for Kawempe Community Library to enhance service delivery. The project study was guided by the five objectives that included to: identify the information needs at Kawempe Community Library, identify the services offered in Kawempe Community Library, establish the forms of information access in Kawempe Community Library, review the challenges faced by accessing information through the manual catalog at Kawempe Community Library, and to propose a virtual library catalogue for Kawempe Community Library to enhance service delivery. The study used the questioner, interview and observation collection methods. Purposive sampling was used to select 50 community members (Library Users) and 5 librarians using the Morgan’s table, The study finding involved information needs of the library users which ranged from local history, local industries and local personalities and information form survival. The services provided by the library which included; book borrowing and lending, classroom and meeting space, reference collections and Research assistance these services great helped the community library users. The forms of information access which included the descriptive cataloguing. There were challenges facing the current cataloguing system which included; government hindrances, less interest, unrecognized community library catalog maintenance, inadequate community library funding and inadequate community library materials. The propose a virtual library catalogue for Kawempe Community Library which was developed, tested and validated using unit, integration, compatibility and system testing after which the system was implemented. It was concluded that Kawempe Community Library tried to provide library information needs using its library materials to Kawempe Community library users, provided services like book borrowing and lending, classroom and meeting space, reference collections and Research assistance these services great helped the community library users. Recommendations were made on improvement on user needs, maintaining the library services, improving Cataloguing, taking action on the existing library catalogue challenges and aadapting to new virtual library catalogue where Kawempe Community Library users and librarians to appreciate, embrace and adapted to the new virtual library catalogue system that has been designed to improve the cataloguing in the library. There should be an effort by both users to learn how the new virtual library system operates to ensure the system optimizationen_US
