dc.description.abstractThe study was carried out onguidelines for preservation and conservation of library materials at UIAHMS library. The study was guided by the objectives; to establish the current status of preservation and conservation of library materials at UIAHMS library, to find out how preservation and conservation of library materials at UIAHMS library is managed, to identify the challenges of preservation and conservation of library materials at UIAHMS library and to propose the best guidelines for preservation and conservation of library materials at UIAHMS library. The study purposely interviewed all the 5 librarians responded to the interviews, this was because they were all available by the time the research was conducted. Library materials especially text books and magazines were stored in shelves, library books were organized flat against the wall, in parallel to each other with merely enough space between to allow passage for librarians and other library users at UIAHMS Mulago Library, the institute library had materials such as books, periodicals, newspapers, maps, prints, documents. The study concluded that, preservation and conservation oflibrary materials at the Uganda Institute of Allied Health and Management Sciences (UIAHMS) Mulago Library were not at its desired level as per the librarians’ views and reasons. The library needed to follow the guideline of preservation and conservation to increase its preservation and conservation performance. The researcher recommended adding more library materials to boost the reading culture in students and increase on their performance, eliminating any linkage of any sort which could wet the library materials hindering preservation and conservation of library materials, controlling rodents and insects existence in the library, rearranging of shelves to create more space and adding library cameras for monitoring library activities in the UIAHMS Mulago Libraryen_US
