Assessing the drivers of deforestation in Bujjuko village in Mpigi district
Abstract
This research focused on the drivers of deforestation in Lwamunda central forest reserve. The
research was carried out with the objectives of finding out the direct and indirect drivers of
deforestation and measures that can be used to reduce on deforestation in Lwamunda central
forest reserve.
The research conducted was both qualitative and quantitative in nature and both exploratory
and descriptive research designs were used. Data was collected using questionnaires, one to
one interviews, reviewing literature and was later analyzed by summarizing, categorizing and
connecting content of the interviews. Quantitative data was analyzed using frequency and
percentage.
The results indicated that the major direct drivers of deforestation are agricultural production,
timber production and demand for forest products where as the major indirect drivers are
economic factors such as poverty, demographic changes and political influence.
