The influence of western fashion on the traditional dressing of the contemporary urban ugandan society

Abstract

This thesis deals with the influence of western fashion on the contemporary urban Ugandan society. The researcher focuses on the traditional Ugandan dressing the materials that were used in making them. How they were used before and after the coming of the whites. The purposes based on how the western fashion has influenced or suppressed or eroded the traditional dressing of Uganda. It is necessary to study the Uganda and western fashion in relation to the traditional wear the brief introduction about Ugandan fashion, western fashion and fashion its self. The researcher had some questions to find out more about the subject or topic in the study. The researcher analysed the methods that were to be used in the research for the observation method, the interview method, the recording method and the use of data analysis. The researcher also used different instruments while carrying out the research for example questionnaires. In this case the researcher when it came to findings he found out a lot of things that concerned our fashion and why it was declining especially in the urban areas and also why western fashion was actually taking over our fashion and what solutions can be taken to improve on our fashion. In the conclusions the researcher found out why people of the contemporary urban society in Uganda prefer the western fashion and not the traditional dressing of the Ugandans and how we can be in place to restore our traditional dressing instead of the western fashion which is immoral or indecent to some extent
