Strategies for enhancing the utilization of e-resources in Kampala Library and Information Centre
Abstract
The study aimed at articulating strategies for enhancing the utilization of e-resources in Kampala Library and Information Centre. The study adopted a mixed methods research design which used both qualitative and quantitative approaches to collect necessary data in order to achieve its aim and objectives. Questionnaire was used as the primary instrument for data collection however Interviews and Observation were also incorporated also. The targeted number of respondents was (33) respondents however the actual respondents were (26) twenty six making a percentage of 78% response rate. The findings of the study revealed that majority of the library users in Kampala Library and Information Centre rarely utilize e-resources as the findings indicated that only three (3) respondents (12%) frequently use electronic resources. e-resources are not effectively utilized in Kampala Library and Information Centre due to numerous factors as the findings indicated the following; low internet connectivity, inadequacy of electronic equipment like computers and incompetent library staff. The study also established that majority of the library users of Kampala Library and Information Centre find difficulties in utilizing e-resources; this is attributed to failure to carryout appropriate user education for the users at large. The recommended optimizing bandwidth, carrying out decent user education, promotion of e-resources and providing sufficient computer systems as strategies for enhancing utilization of e-resources in Kampala Library and Information Centre.
